Welcome to Key Stage 3
Key Stage 3 Curriculum
In Key Stage 3, pupils are offered the opportunity to access most of the usual range of subjects in the National Curriculum. English, Mathematics, Science and Social Development form the key areas of focus for learning in the The Woodlands, both in separately timetabled lessons and in other themes in subjects across the curriculum.
English
Fosters a range of language based learning that promotes achivement across the curriculum
Maths
Develops the ability to use number operations and key concepts to problem solving approaches.
Science
All Science is taught by a subject specialist in a well equipped laboratory that has been recently refurbished to a high standard. Pupils are given access to the Key Stage 3 curriculum base on the exemplar model provided by QCA.
ICT
Information and Communication Technology is being implemented throughout the curriculum, Pupils have access to computers in the core subject areas where they use them as an integral part of their learning experience. ICT is also taught as an individual subject with the emphasis on practical application.
History/Geography
These subjects cover themes that encourage motivation and a broader range of relevant approaches to learning.
Art
A range of new techniques are introduced alongside Art History and appreciation background
PHSE
The programme addresses social, behavioural and citizenship needs of the pupils in accordance with the purpose of their placement.
PE
This subject covers a variety of experiences to re-engage pupils with physical activities and potential leisure interests.
Catering
Pupils experience a range of cooking experiences every 2/3 weeks.
Design Technology
This introduces techniques that foster positive experiences through the design process
