Pupils Rights and Responsibilities

Your rights as a pupil of The Woodlands

  • You have a right to a challenging, rewarding curriculum.
  • You have a right to have your achievements praised.
  • You have the right for your development to be assessed.
  • You have a right to be treated with respect.
  • You have the right to be recognised as a unique individual.
  • You have the right to support and help when you need it.
  • You have the right to enjoy your time at The Woodlands.
  • You have the right to give an opinion before decisions are made.
  • You have the right to be protected from physical or emotional harm.

Pupil Rights

Responsibilities

  • You have a responsibility to behave respectfully to everyone in The Woodland setting.
  • You should treat others as you wish to be treated.
  • You should treat The Woodland property with care.
  • Your work in class should be correctly titled.
  • Your work should be completed as requested and handed to the teacher for marking or assessment.
  • You need to comply with the routines of the day – registration, ordering your school meal, handing in equipment not needed in class for safe keeping.
  • You should represent The Woodland well, no matter where you are in the school day.
  • You must keep this planner with you during the school day.

Pupil Responsibilities

Bullying

Any form of bullying is NOT acceptable.  We want everyone at the school to feel safe & secure. We believe that no one should be bullied in anyway.

Bullying Can Be:

  • EMOTIONAL: Being unfriendly, excluding, tormenting & threats.
  • PHYSICAL: Pushing, kicking, hitting & punching, any use of violence.
  • RACIST: Racial taunts, comments & conversations, graffiti & gestures.
  • SEXUAL: Unwanted physical contact or sexually abusive.
  • HOMOPHOBIC: Issues of any sexuality.
  • VERBAL: Name calling etc.
  • CYBER: All areas of the internet; such as e-mail & internet chat rooms misuse. Mobile verbal threats or texts. Misuse of associated technology i.e.: camera or video.

What To Do:

  • Do not suffer in silence.  TELL SOMEONE: Parent/carer, teacher, youth worker anybody you know who will help.
  • DO NOT: Retaliate in anyway or get your own back.
  • DO NOT: Give in to the demands of the bullies.
  • DO NOT: Deal with the bully yourself.
